09.04.2022: Very comfy weather for a long walk.
The German Angst. Just do it would have been right. But maybe it was better to make it a hard and difficult decision. I knew there were at least 10 miles of tarmac today, probably more. Total length was something like 20 miles / 32 km and I thought of doing the stretch with my bike, one direction or even both.
I had a fantastic parking position in a lay bay overviewing the Saunton Sands. The Angst was caused due to too many miles and my feet (heels) tend to get blisters below the callus – especially when walking on tarmac. I could have gone back to Braunton to make a a smaller section. But then I check the bus service for the section for the next day (which is a Sunday) and realized that no bus service would be available Sundays. I had that last Sunday already and try to avoid these unexpected change of plans now…
It turned out that this stretch was one of the most boring sections I was walking on the SWCP so far. No hills, no cliffs, mostly only tarmac and the water in the estuary was not there – was on holiday (low tide). I should have cheated and gone by bike, shouldn’t I ?
Everything is sorted for the next day(s) and unfortunately I will have 1-2 days to get back to my van by bike as bus service would take about 3 hours. I will decide the next days. The Angst was justified. My blisters are back and I hope they will not be painful during the coming days…
